It all started with God! He had unsettled my spirit and caused me to begin a search for a new avenue of ministry.
Our pastor, Larry Thompson, preached a sermon asking “Is your life in balance?” My answer was “no.” Too many of
my activities were not focused on advancing the kingdom of God. I was active in community service but I wasn’t
reaching others for the Lord. Something had to change so I began praying for direction.
A few weeks later a woman in our Bible study expressed a need for clothes and supplies for newborn babies. She is
a nurse at a clinic in a very impoverished part of the city and her clients are mostly unmarried. Hearing about
this struck a chord in me! I have a beautiful newborn granddaughter who has more clothes and accessories than she
can use, yet I can hardly go by the baby department in a store without wanting to purchase something for her. That's
when I decided that perhaps the Lord would have me buy those items and share them with mothers who had little or no
support for their new babies.
As I began thinking and praying about this, a plan developed. Perhaps other grandparents would like to join me in
helping provide for God’s youngest souls. This idea produced the first birth pangs of Grandparents by Grace. When
my husband, family, friends, and small group embraced the idea I proceeded to purchase the domain name
GrandparentsbyGrace.org and have enlisted my daughter-in-law to develop a website for us. Another Christian coworker
is working on a logo.
It is our intention to begin this work through First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale and their Community Hope Center.
The next step will be up to God but we will work to be ready for His call. Praise the Lord for His blessings!
